Tiffany’s Cupboard
Ridding your cabinets of old plastic tubs will do more than just save you space. BY EMILY MAIN
We’ve become so addicted to storing food in plastic that we often overlook the safest and most versatile materials.
THE KITCHEN CUPBOARD of Tiffany Jackson’s Brooklyn apartment isn’t unique. Like most of us, she has cabinets filled with a hodgepodge of plastic containers and cutting boards, collected from relatives, restaurants and even the occasional kitchen supply store.
But Tiffany wasn’t aware that some of these containers could affect her health. A few of them were made of iffy plastic resins, and others were overly scratched, while still others bore the wrong kinds of memories of Mom’s lasagna.
We decided to clear some space in the kitchen of this 26-year-old’s first apartment and replace her old, worn-out tubs with safer alternatives.
